For brute strength and a challenging fight, it's hard to beat the Sheepshead. These crustacean-eaters are challenging to hook because of their light, nibble-like bites, but when you connect with one they really bend the rod. We fish for the Sheepshead near bridges and other structure from May until October. Early summer "Convicts" up to 10-pounds are the toughest tackle testers in the backwaters. Any let-up on these fish and you will lose them in the structure. Late summer and early fall we find big Sheepshead cruising the flooded oyster bars for extremely difficult and exciting sight-casting opportunities.
