Redfish (aka: red drum, puppy drum, spottail bass, etc.) are the hardest fighting, most exciting fish to chase in the backwaters. We sight cast to them in fifteen inches of water, we watch them explode on topwater lures, and we throw flies into schools of up to 1000 Redfish in the fall. These fish are an absolute handful on light tackle and a lot of fun to catch. Spring marks the return of the Reds to the backwaters. The early season sight-casting opportunities can be exhilarating during this time. The Reds are abundant throughout the summer and begin to form massive schools in the fall. We seek out these schools all fall and winter for non-stop action every cast.
